Medicine Hat College needed a skilled technology partner familiar with Sitecore to make their existing desktop site mobile friendly. While redevelopment work was underway, Bayleaf suggested updating to MVP to further future proof the site.
Supporting the team by making the existing site responsive
Making the current site responsive with limited redevelopment gave MHC additional time and resources to plan for the site’s next version.
STRATEGY & MOBILE
Our familiarity with Sitecore made Bayleaf a natural choice for this project. MHC’s site was already on Sitecore CMS and had robust content and complicated architecture. Their existing technology team, while able to handle daily tasks was unable to tackle making the entire site responsive.
After discussion and code assessment, it was recommended to leverage a SaaS framework, Bootstrap, to standardize the CSS and make the site responsive instead developing a dedicated or hybrid mobile site.
Though Bayleaf was not tasked with ‘design’ per se, a mobile menu approach within the site’s look and feel was needed to handle the extensive site architecture. The design and approach were provided by Bayleaf and implemented. While most pages were made mobile ready with Bootstrap, some specific updates to non-responsive pages and elements were required.
SITECORE EXPERTISE
As Sitecore experts, Bayleaf knew that Sitecore was phasing out Web Forms over the next few years and recommended the MHC update to MVP from Web Forms. The recommendation to do the MVP and CSS updates simultaneously would save the institution money and effort in the long run, by consolidating development, project management & quality assurance costs. The shift from Web Forms to MVC was seamless and allowed the institution to move forward without missing a beat.
